Audi has named a hard-core version of the R8 GT. Based on the existing mid-engined R8 V10 and the integration of aerodynamics, weight reduction and mechanical development of the company uses the LMS R8 GT3 race car.

Audi of America has not yet confirmed the U.S. plan, but the car is likely to appear here in the spring of 2011 as a model 2011th

Although originally not planned as part of the R8 form the lineup to meet give Audi decision of the low-volume GT derived largely from customer requests for a tightly focused version of the mid-engined coupe, modeled after the Porsche 911 GT3 RS – a car for track days competition and club events, but still legal to use for road construction.

Key to increased performance of the GT’s is a series of detailed changes, the weight of 200 pounds to 3362 pounds cut. 

It’s still about 300 pounds heavier than the 911 GT3 RS and more than 400 pounds chunkier than the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-recently introduced four Superleggera, R8 GT, which shares much of its power train. 

However, Audi says a combination of reduced weight and increased flow, the car combined with an additional speed on the straights and with changes in their intensive aluminum chassis, sharper handling.

One of the changes in the cutting weight goal is a CFP sedan, fixed rear wing, modified caliper, noise reduction equipment in the engine compartment and a thinner windshield. Glass in the saloon was replaced by polycarbonate.

In the heart of the R8 GT is a modified version of the R8 V10 naturally aspirated 5.2-liter direct-injection engine – essentially the same unit used by the Gallardo Superleggera LP570-4, but with a different exhaust system. 

Characterized by its unique redheads, matched ft for an additional 35 hp and an additional 7-lb of torque to 398 lb-ft.

Power is channeled to the wheels via a reinforced-up version of the six-speed Audi R Tronic gearbox and a viscous coupling, the nominal 15:85 front-to-rear distribution of the supplies drive. 

As a front-end extra traction is required, the viscous coupling opens up to a 30/70 split front to rear. Audi GT with a standard mechanical differential.

Audi R8, says the GT will hit 62 hours miles from standstill in just 3.6 seconds – 0.3 seconds faster than the R8 V10 and 0.4 seconds faster than the official time of the 911 GT3 RS. Top speed also extends through two hours and 199 miles miles miles per hour 6 hours faster than the 911 GT3 RS.

Together with the improvements of the transmission, the R8, the revised basis, making the GT firmer springs and dampers, the lower fall of 0.4 inches, and change prices for both front and back for what Audi describes as “added agility.”

The Stability Control has been adapted accordingly and gets a sport mode that delays the threshold for intervention or Stability Control can be turned off completely. 

Standard 19-inch wheels, 8.5 inches wide and 11.0 cm wide, are at the rear with 235/35 and 295/30 tires front and rear. Cup games are an option.

More weight savings comes from carbon-ceramic brake discs with red calipers made of anodized aluminum with six-piston front and four piston calipers in the back yard.

Body 2011 Audi R8 GT

The R8 GT is replaced by a series of subtle exterior upgrades to increase output, including a prominent splitter and a fixed rear wing, all of which is to be made of carbon fiber. The chrome elements in matte gray finish. 

Four body-color schemes are offered: Samoa orange, Suzuka Grey metallic, silver metallic and ice Phantom Black Pearl Effect.

Inside are a unique tool R8 GT graphics processor, a special gear, a liberal splash of Alcantara and unique thresholds. As an optional accessory, the buyer can order from GT with a bolt-in roll cage, four-point belts, fire extinguishers and a kill switch for the battery.
